Defy breaks down barriers and creates career opportunities for Entrepreneurs-in-Training (EITs) by connecting them with entrepreneurs, investors, business executives and other community members inside of prison and out. Volunteer events are designed to create transformational experiences for EITs and volunteers alike.

October 24

Business Pitch Competition and Graduation

10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Correctional Training Facility, Soledad - D Yard

Joining Defy for an event in prison is an enriching experience! You will have the opportunity to directly impact the lives of incarcerated individuals who have made a commitment to transform their lives and your life, too, will be transformed. Business Pitch Competitions begin with icebreaker exercises designed to help create an inclusive and accepting community. Afterward, volunteers serve as judges for the EITs’ Shark-Tank style pitch competition at the culmination of their journey with Defy. Following the competition, EITs don caps and gowns and their family members are invited to join the graduation ceremony. Volunteers have the special opportunity to bear witness and lend support to the graduates who have worked diligently to reach this milestone occasion. This video will give you a glimpse into the experience.

November 7

Defy Alumni Association Workshop

6:00pm - 8:00pm

LinkedIn Headquarters, San Francisco

This workshop is sponsored and presented by LinkedIn. EITs are invited to come learn how to build your network and advance your career on LinkedIn. If you’re a volunteer with a particularly rockin’ profile, come help the EITs craft stellar online resumes that will grab the attention of potential employers. Dinner will be provided!
